Who we are
This Privacy Policy applies to the TSN group: The Startup Nerds Pty Ltd, trading as TSN Advisory, and The Startup Nerds Tax Pty Ltd, trading as TSN Tax (together “TSN”, “we” or “us”). It covers all TSN-owned websites and domains, and the personal information we handle when we provide our services.
We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Links to other websites
Our websites may link to third-party websites, such as Galaxy CFO or booking tools. We don’t control those sites or their privacy practices, which may differ from ours. Personal information you give to unrelated third parties is not covered by this policy, so we encourage you to read their privacy policies before sharing your details.
The information we collect
Personal information is information that identifies you or could reasonably identify you. Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect your name, business name, address, phone number, email address, billing and transaction details, tax and financial information needed to provide our services, identification documents we need to verify who you are, and your contact preferences.
We collect most information directly from you – for example when you fill in an enquiry form, book a call, request our free book, leave a review or become a client. Sometimes we collect information from third parties with your consent, such as your previous accountant, or from public records such as ASIC and the ABN register.
We also collect non-personal information about how visitors use our websites, such as pages visited. Most of this is collected through cookies and similar analytics tools. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, although some parts of the site may not work as well.
Our websites are not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Why we collect and use it
We use your personal information to respond to your enquiries, provide and manage our services, verify your identity before we take you on as a client, communicate with you, send you information you have asked for, improve our services and websites, and meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
We will not use your personal information for a purpose unrelated to the one you gave it for unless you agree, or the law allows or requires it.
Who we share it with
We will not sell, rent or lease your personal information. We share it only where needed to provide our services or where the law requires it – for example with the ATO, ASIC and other government bodies, with TSN Advisory and TSN Tax as related entities, and with service providers who work on our behalf (such as cloud accounting, document storage and booking software). Our service providers must keep your information confidential and use it only to carry out their services for us.
We do not share information with credit reporting bodies.
Some of our service providers store data outside Australia. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to make sure your information is handled securely and in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
If TSN merges with or is acquired by another business, we will make every reasonable effort to let you know before your personal information is transferred.
Use of artificial intelligence (AI) and third-party AI services
TSN may use artificial intelligence and other technology-enabled services in its business operations, including to process, extract, organise or analyse information.
Where a third-party AI service is used to process personal information, we require that provider to comply with applicable privacy, confidentiality, security, retention and data-use requirements. Their use of personal information is subject to our contractual requirements and our AI Restriction of Use Policy, as applicable, and we take reasonable steps to make sure it is used only for authorised purposes and properly protected.
Marketing and your choices
We only send you marketing, such as newsletters, if you have asked for it or agreed to it. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of our emails, or by emailing us.
Keeping your information secure
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, change or disclosure. When we no longer need it, and are not required by law to keep it, we securely destroy or de-identify it.
Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong, out of date or incomplete. Email us at hello@tsnadvisory.com. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually 30 days. If we can’t give you access or make a correction, we will tell you why in writing.
Making a complaint
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, please email hello@tsnadvisory.com with the details. We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can escalate your complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post any changes on this page and update the date below.
